Summer Registration office

GPS Summer Registration Office is for enrollment K-6. We can also accept Junior High documents.
Junior Highs will process their own registrations but offices may be closed periodically.
High School offices are open all summer.

If your student is already a GPS student and is moving schools, log into the Parent Portal, click Online Registration, complete enrollment.

If your student is NEW to GPS please bring the required documents to our Summer Registration office, or your school depending on the date after using the enroll button below.

The quick and easy online application is in English or Spanish. Open enrollment opportunities are available for students who wish to attend a school within the Gilbert Public School District but don't live within that school's boundaries. Families without computer or internet access can visit a school to request paper forms (or utilize a computer at the school) to begin the enrollment process. What is open enrollment?

Arizona offers school choice which means you do not have to live within the boundaries of a school to attend that school.

If your student does not live within the boundaries of the school they would like to enroll in then they are open enrollment. Also all of the schools and programs below do not have boundaries and enrollment at their schools is therefore open enrollment.

If your student is moving to one of our non-boundaried schools and programs listed below please complete an online open enrollment application for your school(s) of choice.

What is Online Enrollment?

Online Enrollment is a web-based portal for parents and guardians to submit an application to enroll a student new to Gilbert Public Schools. Online Enrollment does not replace the need to go to the building to complete the registration process, but it does allow the form to be submitted electronically, which reduces paperwork and makes the process more efficient.

What information/documentation is needed to enroll?

In addition to completing the enrollment packet, the following documents are required. You can upload some of these documents, or after a campus representative has contacted you, bring the required documentation to the campus to complete the enrollment process.

Birth Certificate – Required showing that a student falls within the school district’s minimum and maximum age requirements. Students must be five (5) years old on or before August 31 of the school year for enrollment in kindergarten and six (6) years of age on or before August 31 of the school year for enrollment into first grade. The birth certificate is also used to verify the correct legal name. In compliance with federal, state and district guidelines, all students are enrolled using the legal name on the student’s birth certificate UNLESS there has been a court-ordered name change and a photocopy of the legal name change documents are provided at the time of enrollment.
Proof of Residency – Arizona Revised Statutes (A.R.S) 15-802(b) requires school districts to obtain and maintain verifiable documentation of Arizona Residency upon enrollment in an Arizona public school. The documentation must be provided each time a student enrolls in a school and reaffirmed annually.

- Affidavit of Residency – If you are residing in the home of a relative or friend, you must provide an Affidavit of Residency notarized by the owner/renter. The owner/renter of the home must provide the same proof of residency documentation noted above with the Affidavit.
Proof of Immunization – All students entering Arizona public schools are required by law to be immunized. Proof of immunization or a signed waiver is required at the time of enrollment and must include the name of the person, birth date, type of vaccine administered and the month, day and year of each immunization (A.R.S. 15-828).
Legal Guardianship or Custodial Documents – Please provide any legal guardianship and/or custody documents regarding the student.
Withdrawal Form – Please provide a withdrawal form from the last school the student attended, if applicable.

How to enroll multiple students from the same family via Infinite Campus?

When enrolling more than one student from the same family in Infinite Campus, be sure you add the information for each student you are applying for in one application in the Student Enrollment Information area before submitting.

Even if students are enrolling at different GPS schools. As you add each student’s information, you can select what campus they are seeking enrollment for. Once submitted, the information is sent to each campus.

Do students need to re-enroll every year if they are open enrolled at a GPS school?

If my student is changing schools, for example moving to Junior High or High School, do we need to re-enroll?

If your student is changing schools -- which includes moving up to junior high (7th grade) or high school (9th grade) -- and selecting any school they are not boundaried for, please complete an online open enrollment application for your new school of choice.

If your student is moving up to junior high or high school, are currently enrolled in a GPS school, and are moving to a school that your student is boundaried for you do not need to complete a new enrollment.

Definitions

"Open enrollment" means a policy that is adopted and implemented by the Governing Board to allow resident transfer students to enroll in any school within the District, to allow resident students to enroll in any school located within other school districts in this state, and to allow nonresident students to enroll in any school within the District pursuant to A.R.S. § 15-816.01.

"Nonresident student" means a student who resides in this state, and who is enrolled in or is seeking enrollment in a school district other than the school district in which the student resides.

"Resident student" means a student whose parents or legal guardian reside within the attendance area of a District school.

"Resident school" means a school that is within the designated attendance area in which a student resides.

"Resident transfer student" means a resident student who is enrolled in or seeking enrollment in a school that is within the school District but outside the attendance area of the student's residence.

Enrollment

The District shall enroll any resident student who applies for enrollment any time. The District shall give enrollment preference to, and reserve capacity for all the following:

Resident students.
Students returning to the school from the prior year.
Siblings of students already enrolled, and
Student classified as homeless who choose to remain at the school in which the student was enrolled before classification.

The District gives enrollment preference to children who:

Are in foster care.
Meet the definition of unaccompanied youth prescribed in the McKinney-Vento homeless assistance act (42 U.S.C. § 11434a).
Attend a school that is closing or
Are children of a member of the United States Armed Forces who is either on active duty or was killed in the line of duty.

Enrollment Priority Order

The District will give enrollment priority to applicants in the following order, as long as their enrollment can be accomplished in accordance with the District's admission criteria:

Children of District employees.
Students receiving priority status as a group identified by the Board. This includes any boundary changes as well as school closures.
Previously accepted resident transfer students.
Siblings of previously accepted resident transfer students.
Resident transfer students who currently are in the last grade of a feeder school to the school at which the application is being made.
Resident transfer students who do not currently attend the school or a feeder school.
Previously accepted nonresident students.
Siblings of nonresident students who currently attend the school.
Nonresident students who currently are in the last grade of a feeder school to the school at which the application is being made.
Nonresident students who do not currently attend the school or a feeder school.

Schools Without Attendance Boundaries

The District may establish schools that do not have attendance boundaries. Student attendance for such schools shall be based upon open enrollment applications. Transfer is subject to the capacity limit established for the school, program, and/or grade level. Student transportation will be the responsibility of the parent/legal guardian.

Nondiscrimination and Equitable Enrollment

The District will not deny enrollment based on ethnicity, or race, national origin, sex, income level, disability, English language proficiency, athletic ability, or academic performance.

The implementation of this policy must not disproportionately impact any group or class of students.
